The Israeli ambassador to India Ron Malka has said that the embassy is on high alert before the blast outside yesterday.

Speaking to foreign news agency AFP, Ron Malka said he was not surprised by Friday’s attack, which did not cause any damage but shattered the windows of three vehicles.

The embassy road remained sealed on Saturday and forensic experts gathered evidence to determine who was responsible.

Israeli officials called the attack a terrorist act.

However, Indian police are still calling it a ‘crude attempt to spread sensation’.

“Otherwise, the outcome could have been different, but we were lucky,” Ron Malika said in a telephone interview.

“We are always on high alert, especially these days, and we have raised the alert because of a few threats,” he said.

The bomber struck near the Israeli embassy on the same day as India and Israel were celebrating the 29th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

The Israeli ambassador said the timing of the blast should be part of the investigation.

On Friday, an explosion has been reported in New Delhi outside the Israeli embassy. No casualties reported, however, cars in the area have been damaged.

The explosion occurred near the Israel embassy at APJ Abdul Kalam Road.

According to the Indian news outlet, the blast took place at 5:05 pm (local time) and it was a “low-intensity IED blast”.

“A very low-intensity improvised device went off at 5:05 pm near APJ Abdul Kalam Road near Jindal house. No injury to any person is there and nor any damage to property was witnessed, except window panes of three vehicles parked nearby,” the Delhi Police said in a statement.

After the explosion, the district around the embassy was sealed off, and bomb disposal experts took over the scene to find clues related to the blast.

Media reports suggested that the Indian ruling party BJP was behind the attack outside Israeli embassy to divert the attention from Farmers Protest.
