Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has postponed a visit to the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain scheduled for this month due to travel restrictions due to the coronavirus.

According to the reports, the Israeli Prime Minister , Netanyahu has planned to pay to Abu Dhabi and Manama, which will be his first official visit since the establishment of diplomatic relations with the Gulf countries in September last year.

Israel signed an agreement with Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates in September to normalize diplomatic relations.

Netanyahu had said he had been planning to visit Israel’s new partner countries for several months. This will be the first official visit of the Israeli Prime Minister, but the visit has been postponed each time.

A statement from Netanyahu’s office said on Thursday that “despite the importance of the visit to Abu Dhabi and Bahrain, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has decided to postpone the visit due to travel restrictions.”

Israel closed its airport to air traffic last month to prevent a new strain of the corona virus.

Earlier in September 2020, the UAE, along with Bahrain and Israel, signed a US-brokered agreement to normalize ties.

The agreements, known as the “Abraham Accords“, shattered a longstanding Arab consensus that there should be no normalization with Israel until it reaches a comprehensive peace deal with the Palestinians.

Last week, the UAE announced that it had approved the establishment of its first embassy to Israel in Tel Aviv, and Israel also announced the opening of an embassy in Abu Dhabi.

Israel has also assigned its former ambassador to Turkey, Eitan Na’eh, as the country’s top diplomat to the Emirates.
