The death toll by a number of explosions in Guinea’s military base has surged to thirty and has left more than 600 wounded.
According to the details, massive damage has been reported by the series of explosions in Guinea’s Bata city.
The cause of the blasts was reported as ‘the negligence in dynamite’ storage at the base by farmers.
President Teodoro Obiang in his statement delivered in Spanish said, “The impact of the explosion caused damage in almost all the houses and buildings in Bata.”
A statement by the defense ministry said that the blasts were caused due to a fire at a weapons depot in the base which left more than 600 people injured.
However, further causes of the explosions will be properly investigated.
Guinea’s President said the fire may have been caused by residents burning the fields surrounding the military base.
It is pertinent to mention here that despite the rich oil reserves, the majority of the population of Guinea faces poverty. Equatorial Guinea is a small country of some 1.4 million people.
Earlier, due to the shocking economic loss, the country’s Prime Minister had stepped down saying, he had not done enough to help eliminate the crisis from the country.
Francisco Pascual Obama Asue had been serving as the premier since June 2016.
