Kyiv: The government claimed Thursday that four buses carrying refugees from the besieged and damaged coastal city of Mariupol had left.

Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk announced on social media that “four evacuation buses managed to leave the city yesterday through the humanitarian corridor,”on Wednesday and that the evacuation of women, children, and the elderly will continue on Thursday.

“The security situation is difficult. Things may change,” She went on.

This war for Mariupol appears to be reaching a critical point after nearly two months of bloody combat that has trapped and murdered countless civilians.

Russian military dominance of Mariupol and the separatist-controlled eastern Donbas region would allow the annexation of the Crimean peninsula by Moscow in 2014, taking away much of Ukraine’s coastline from it.
