In light of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Taiwan’s military has issued a guide to war survival for citizens on how the island should respond to Chinese pressure.

To bring Taiwan under China’s authority, China has never given up the use of force, and in the past two years, it has stepped up military activity near the island.

It includes information on how to locate bomb shelters using smartphone applications, how to stock up on water and food, and how to prepare first aid kits.

It makes use of cartoons and illustrations to provide survival advice, such as how to recognise air raid sirens and where to seek refuge from missiles.

Liu Tai-yi, an official with the ministry’s All-out Defence Mobilization section, said in an online press conference that “(we) are giving information on how citizens should react in a military crisis and possible disasters to come.”

As a result, he added, people might be better protected and more prepared for their everyday lives, and he promised that the database will be continually updated with new information on the locations of emergency shelters, hospitals, and stores selling necessities.

Since the conflict in Ukraine began, the manual has been in the works, but Taiwan has not detected any signs of an impending invasion.
