KHARKIV: Multiple Russian shellings struck Ukraine’s second city, Kharkiv, on Saturday, despite President Volodymyr Zelensky claims Ukrainian forces are having “tactical achievements” in the region.

Despite the fact that Ukraine has kept control of Kharkiv, the city has been frequently shelled by Russian forces and continues to be targeted on a daily basis.

The regional military administration of Kharkiv reported on Telegram that one person was killed and five others were injured “as a result of enemy artillery and mortar strikes.”

“The situation in the Kharkiv region is tough. But our military, our intelligence, have had important tactical success,” In his most recent televised address, Zelensky remarked.

Hundreds of people were evacuated as Ukrainian forces reclaimed the “strategically important” town of Ruska Lozova near Kharkiv.

Russia announced on Friday that it launched an air strike on Kyiv during UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ visit, the first such attack in over two weeks on the Ukrainian capital, in which a journalist was killed.

Russia’s defence ministry said it had used “high-precision, long-range air-based weapons” to “destroyed the production buildings of the Artyom missile and space enterprise in Kyiv”.

Following his meetings with the UN secretary general in the city on Thursday, Zelensky advocated for a greater global reaction to the strikes.

“It is unfortunate, but such a deliberate and brutal humiliation of the United Nations by Russia has gone unanswered,” he said.

Guterres also went on a tour of Bucha and other Kyiv areas where Moscow is accused of war crimes. Russia denies that it has killed people.

“I was moved by the resilience and bravery of the people of Ukraine. My message to them is simple: We will not give up, “Guterres tweeted Friday.

“The @UN will redouble its efforts to save lives and reduce human suffering. In this war, as in all wars, the civilians always pay the highest price.

The strong blow destroyed walls and doors, leaving mounds of wreckage on the ground.

“I think Russians aren’t afraid of anything, not even the world’s judgement,”  Anna Hromovych, deputy director of a seriously damaged clinic, told AFP on Friday as she and others cleaned up the destruction.

Putin is still scheduled to attend the G20 conference in November, according to Indonesian President Joko Widodo. Zelensky has been invited as well.
