Kyiv: President Volodymyr Zelenskiy says 2,500-3,000 Ukrainian servicemen have died and 10,000 have been injured in seven weeks of combat with Russia.

He told CNN on Friday that no civilians were killed.

He estimated 19,000-20,000 Russian servicemen had been slain in the fighting. Last month, Russia reported 1,351 dead and 3,825 wounded.

Reuters couldn’t verify either side’s figures.

Fighting erupted in Mariupol as Ukraine claimed to be breaking Russia’s blockade. Mariupol, once home to 400,000 people, is now a shambles. Des tens de thousands de persons remain trapped.

With its superior weaponry, Ukraine claimed responsibility for sinking the Moskva. It sank in stormy seas after a munitions explosion created a fire, and over 500 sailors were evacuated.

A senior US official said the US believes two Ukrainian missiles hit the Moskva, killing Russians.

No one could independently verify the results.
