Former US President Donald Trump, in a statement, blasted the US for striving to offer more than USD 40 billion in assistance to Ukraine amid Russia’s special military campaign and encouraged Europe to do more to address its regional concerns.

“Why are we giving more than $40 billion to Ukraine while Europe is giving very little, and they are obviously much more impacted by a Russian invasion than the US?” Trump asked in a statement on Thursday.

The US president stated that he was successful in convincing European countries to pay their due amounts to NATO, and that the Biden administration should do the same.

Regarding the billions of dollars the US has sent to Ukraine since February, Trump stated that China and others are “smiling all the way to the bank.”

If the USD 40 billion Ukraine aid package passes the Senate next week, the US will have authorised nearly USD 60 billion in total for Ukraine in recent years.

Senator Rand Paul of the United States claimed earlier on Thursday that only the top five nations in the world spend more than USD 60 billion on military spending, which is nearly comparable to what Russia spends.
