Russia has halted some 300 cargo ships in the Black Sea as part of its invasion of Ukraine, preventing grain and other goods from being exported from Ukraine. According to source, the US State Department stated this on Twitter on Wednesday.
“While Ukraine used to export up to 5 million tonnes of grain every month, due to the Kremlin’s blockade of Ukrainian ports and over 300 cargo ships in the Black Sea, exports have all but ceased,” the statement added.
These activities, according to the US State Department, “threaten to put millions at danger of hunger and malnutrition.”
The US consistently underlines the worldwide threat posed by Putin’s conflict in Ukraine, particularly the threat to global food security. At the same time, it is pointed out that Russia is actively obstructing grain supplies from Ukrainian ports, as well as destroying and stealing Ukrainian food stores. US President Joe Biden has previously stated that Russia’s war is one of the key causes of rising global food and fuel prices.
