According to the UN World Food Programme WFP, if Ukrainian Black Sea ports are not restored soon, people all over the world would starve.

“We have to open up these ports so that food can move in and out of Ukraine. The world demands it because hundreds of millions of people globally depend on these supplies,” WFP Executive Director David Beasley said.

“Right now Ukraine’s grain silos are full.”

The World Food Programme is afraid that if the silos are not emptied soon, there would be nowhere to store this summer’s produce, resulting in tremendous waste and pushing up global food prices even higher.

As we mentioned in our earlier article at 15:56 (BST), the UN Food and Agriculture Organization believes that 25 million tonnes of grain are presently stranded in Ukraine due to the closure of its Black Sea ports.
