Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky used the Davos conference on Monday to call for additional weaponry and “maximum” sanctions against Russia.
Zelensky told the World Economic Forum via videolink that if Kyiv had gotten “100% of our needs at once back in February” when Russia attacked Ukraine, tens of thousands of lives would have been saved.
“This is why Ukraine needs all the weapons that we asked (for), not just the ones that have been provided,” Zelensky stated, flanked by Ukrainian flags and dressed in an olive green T-shirt.
Zelensky proposed an oil embargo on Russia, as well as punitive actions against all of its banks and a boycott of the country’s IT industry, as well as the expulsion of all foreign enterprises.
He addressed a conference of the world’s political and economic elites, saying, “There should be no trade with Russia.”
“I believe there are still no such sanctions against Russia — and there should be.”
While the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada have moved to prohibit Russian oil and gas, the European Union is split on the issue.
Germany and Hungary, for example, are significantly reliant on Russian energy imports.
