KABUL: Afghan security authorities discovered illegal substances and arrested two people during a routine inspection of vehicles on the Kabul-Jalalabad highway, the Afghan news agency said on Friday.

During a check of a vehicle on Thursday, police uncovered 38 kg of illegal substances and arrested two passengers on suspicion of transporting the contraband, according to a Afghan news agency.

Without offering any information, the media outlet said that the country’s security services would continue to target drug traffickers.

In April, the Taliban-led government outlawed the growing and processing of opium poppies and claimed to rid Afghanistan of its drug problem.
