An armed drone struck a road on the outskirts of Irbil, Iraqi Kurdistan’s capital, on Wednesday evening, injuring three individuals, according to security agencies.

The Kurdistan Autonomous Counter-Terrorism Agency stated in a statement that the incident, which took place on the road connecting Irbil to Pirmam in the northeast, “damaged several vehicles.”

The attack took place three kilometres from the building site of the new US consulate on the outskirts of the city of Irbil and was not immediately claimed.

The United Arab Emirates consulate is also only a few hundred metres away from where the strike occurred.

Multiple incidents have occurred in Irbil and the independent Kurdistan region in recent months.

The most significant came in March, when Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed to have fired 12 ballistic missiles towards an Israeli “strategic centre” in Irbil.

The authorities of Iraqi Kurdistan deny that Israel is present on their territory.

The strikes did not result in any deaths, but they did cause significant property damage.

Unidentified rocket assaults have also damaged oil refineries in the Irbil region, causing minor property damage.
