Fighting raged on the streets of Severodonetsk, Ukraine flashpoint city, on Tuesday, with the situation changing “every hour,” according to an official, as Kyiv warned its troops were outmanned by Russian forces.
Moscow appeared to be on the verge of capturing the important industrial hub in the east only a few days ago, but Ukrainian forces managed to hold out.
“Our heroes are holding their positions in Severodonetsk. Fierce street fights continue in the city,” Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, stated in a video message late Monday.

Since President Vladimir Putin ordered Russian forces into Ukraine on February 24, thousands of civilians have been slaughtered and millions have been forced to flee their homes.
Russia has centred its assault on the eastern Donbas region after being rejected from other regions of the country, including Kyiv, and has been making sluggish but steady progress.
Severodonetsk, the largest city in the Lugansk region of the Donbass still under Ukrainian control, has been a focal point in recent weeks, with officials describing a rapidly changing situation on the ground.

“We have hope, we have faith in our armed forces, no one’s going to abandon” Severodonetsk, he said.
