The German news agency reported on Monday that a knife-wielding attacker stabbed at least five people in an asylum-seeker shelter in southern Germany, killing one man and wounding at least five others.

On Sunday evening, the alleged assailant, a resident of the refuge, reportedly knocked on the doors of the rooms of the building in Kressbronn, on Lake Constance.

He stabbed residents when they opened the door, according to German news.

One man succumbed to his injuries immediately, one man was airlifted to the hospital, and four others were sent to the hospital via ambulance.

It was initially unclear whether further individuals had been injured.

A 31-year-old man was arrested by police outside the refugee centre; his identity was withheld to comply with German privacy laws.
