Poland has inked a defence contract with Ukraine for the sale of Krab self-propelled howitzers for PLN 2.7 billion (about $650 million). According to a source, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for State Assets Jacek Sasin, and National Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said this during a joint press conference on Tuesday at the Huta Stalowa Wola steel mill.
“We are currently negotiating one of, if not the largest, export defence contracts in the previous 30 years. The supply of arms to Ukrainians, to Ukraine, is what this is all about “According to Morawiecki.
These weapons will be “very essential” on the battlefield in eastern Ukraine, he said. He pointed out that Ukraine gets money to buy these weapons partially from the EU and partly from its own budget.
According to Sasin, the contract is a “record” for Poland because it is worth more than PLN 2.7 billion. “In the last 30 years, there hasn’t been a deal like this in the Polish defence industry,” Sasin added.

According to Blaszczak, the conflict in Ukraine is not what many people envisioned in the twenty-first century, but rather a fight reminiscent of World War II photographs and stories.
Artillery, he claims, plays a crucial part in Russia’s battle against Ukraine. As a result, Poland will rely on artillery development.
When asked if Ukraine plans to buy more Piorun MANPADS from Poland, Blaszczak responded that “Ukrainians highly laud these weapons.” He did, however, affirm the possibility of future MANPADS exports to Ukraine, stressing that the Polish Ministry of Defense will order these missile systems for its own army.
