Ukraine has made every effort to become eligible to apply for membership in the European Union. In a video message, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated
He pointed out that Ukraine is now closer to the start of full European integration thanks to the European Commission’s favourable assessment of its standing as an EU candidate. He claims that everyone who works for Ukraine has achieved something significant in history.
“The only thing left is to wait for the decision of the European Council next week. And I believe that Ukraine has done everything possible for this step to be positive as well – the decision of the European Council, i.e. the leaders of the EU states,” Zelensky said.
In his opinion, Ukraine deserves this. “Ukrainian values are European values. Ukrainian institutions maintain resilience even in conditions of war. Ukrainian democratic habits have not lost their power even now. And our rapprochement with the European Union is not only positive for us. This is the greatest contribution to the future of Europe in many years,” Zelensky said.

“Even this fact alone shows everything at once – the professionalism of our people, the strength of our institutions, our ability to fulfill promises and the magnitude of Ukraine’s potential,” the president said.
He also emphasized that Ukraine’s integration into Europe is neither exclusively political or removed from the everyday lives of ordinary people. Instead, he said, it will increase chances to ensure that every Ukrainian lives in the contemporary, rich world.
the European Commission suggested to the European Council that it affirm Ukraine’s desire to join the EU and award it candidate status.
At a meeting on June 23–24, representatives from the European Council will have a detailed debate about granting Ukraine the status of a candidate nation for membership in the European Union.
