Pro-Kremlin rebels in Ukraine on Tuesday confirmed the death of another Russian general Kutuzov in the country’s military campaign.
Kutuzov’s death was first reported by a Russian state TV war correspondent, although it has yet to be confirmed by Moscow officials.
Denis Pushilin, the leader of Ukraine’s pro-Russian separatists, extended his “sincere condolences” to Major General Roman Kutuzov’s “family and friends,” saying he “showed by example how to serve the fatherland.”

The statement comes as the Russian military and rebel allies launch a major attack on Ukraine’s eastern Donbas area, with a ferocious battle raging for Severodonetsk.
Ukraine’s soldiers claim to have killed numerous Russian high brass since Moscow launched troops into Ukraine on February 24, but the precise number is unknown because Moscow rarely communicates its casualties.

Major General Vladimir Frolov’s funeral was held in April in Saint Petersburg, Russia’s second largest city, with local authorities acknowledging that he died a “heroic death” in Ukraine.
