War-hit reports say that Ukraine’s airborne force destroyed nine Russian tanks, and the country’s defence ministry showed video of tanks exploding and sending up thick clouds of smoke.

On Saturday tweets from the Ukrainian defence ministry depicted a number of similar explosions from the air. According to them, the number of “enemy tanks” destroyed would shortly surpass 2,000.

It is unclear exactly what region the footage originates from.

“In this battle Ukrainian airborne forces destroyed nine Russian tanks. Total number of the enemy’s tanks destroyed will soon reach 2,000. Footage by the Command of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces,” said the tweet.

Yesterday, the ministry tweeted a photo of an inverted tank that had been destroyed in Chernihiv.

“They wanted to take Kyiv in three days, but something went wrong. Remains of the Russian occupiers and their scrap metal in Chernihiv region,” a tweet stated.

The ministry also published an image of a rocket-like projectile in flight, describing it as a  “going away gift for some of the Russian occupiers.”

On February 20, Russia began its invasion of Ukraine.
