Abdullah al-Alimi, a member of Yemen’s Presidential Council, cautioned that the Houthi militia’s continued mobilisation, regrouping, and violations of the UN ceasefire pose a threat to the peace process.
Al-Alimi made the remarks during a meeting with US Ambassador to Yemen, Stephen Fagin, the Yemen news agency reported on Thursday.
Al-Alimi said that the Houthi militia must keep its promise by taking down the blockade on Taiz, opening roads into and out of the city, and letting Yemeni people move around the country safely and without restrictions.
Fagin agreed that the Houthis’ willingness to follow the UN ceasefire is very important, and he said that the US will continue to help the internationally recognised government of Yemen do its job.
In addition to battling terrorism, al-Alimi noted that the Presidential Leadership Council has a clear strategy for addressing difficulties in the economic, service, security, and military sectors.
The two also discussed measures to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.
During their discussion, Al-Alimi and Fagin discussed matters of mutual interest, such as regional security and the newest techniques for battling terrorism.
Al-Alimi praised the United States for its efforts to support the cease-fire in Yemen and for its positive response to the humanitarian crisis in that country.
Fagin also praised the Presidential Leadership Council and the administration for taking a good stand on tightening the humanitarian ceasefire and supporting all efforts to bring peace to Yemen.
