The crescent moon, which signifies the start of the holy month of Ramadan, was not visible in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday night. As a result, the month of Sha’ban would end on Wednesday, March 22, and the holy month would start on Thursday, March 23.

Ramadan is not fixed on any certain dates each year because the Islamic calendar is often either 29 or 30 days long, and the beginning and conclusion of the month depend on the crescent moon.

To authenticate the moon sighting, the Kingdom’s moon sighting committee will convene once more on Wednesday night.

Muslims were previously urged by Saudi Arabia to see the crescent during the holy month of Ramadan. The Supreme Court instructed anyone who sees the crescent, whether with the unaided eye or a pair of binoculars, to go to the nearest court and report what they saw.

The ninth month of the Islamic calendar, Ramadan, is observed by the devout with prayers and fasting. Ramadan is the month in which the Holy Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Muslims fast during Ramadan from dawn (Fajr) till dusk (Maghreb). One of Islam’s five pillars, fasting is a requirement for all Muslims who are able to observe it. In addition to refraining from food and liquids while fasting, Ramadan is a month of self-control, introspection, and forming virtuous spiritual practices.
