Heartwarming 911 Call: Boy Seeks Hug from US Police Officer

A police officer in Florida received a 911 call from a young boy who, as it turns out, did not have a genuine emergency.

His true intention was to seek a hug from the deputy who responded to the call. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office posted bodycam footage showing Deputy Scott Pracht’s response and conversation with the boy’s mother.

In the video, Deputy Pracht can be heard asking, “Is everything all right? We received a 911 call.” In response, the mother tells the officer, “We can speak with my son. Honestly, he doesn’t even know what 911 is.”

The mother then calls her son outside and asks him to bring his phone. She explains to the deputy that her son’s cell phone had been disconnected.

The mother asks the young boy, “Did you call this gentleman?”

“Well, I wanted to give him a hug,” the young boy answers.

The officer embraces the boy, who subsequently shares with the officer that he recognizes the number 911.

The officer proceeds to educate the young boy, emphasizing that 911 should be dialed exclusively in genuine emergencies, specifically when someone is injured or requires assistance.

“Okay, sorry,” the boy told the officer.

“It’s okay kid, don’t worry about it,” the officer says and gives him a fist bump on the way out.

“Just wanted a hug,” the officer says into his radio as he leaves the property.

Along with the video, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office wrote, “Accidental 911 Call Leads to Heartwarming Moment. The body-worn camera captures the moment a #teamHCSO deputy responded to a call from a young boy who dialled 911 not because of an emergency, but because he simply wanted to hug a deputy. Deputy Pracht shared a hug, and took a moment to teach the importance of the emergency line while spreading love.”
