Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, faced its first Russian air attack in 52 days, as reported by city officials on the Telegram messaging app.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko noted “strong explosions” in the early hours of Saturday, with preliminary information suggesting successful interception by air defense systems.

Residents were instructed to seek refuge in air raid shelters. No immediate casualties were reported. Simultaneously, Odesa, 275 miles away, experienced at least two missile attacks, resulting in three injuries and a hospitalized 96-year-old woman in stable condition.

G7 foreign ministers affirmed support for Ukraine amid concerns of “Ukraine fatigue” in the West. French President Macron emphasized his country’s “duty” to aid Ukraine in an exclusive interview with the BBC.

He said if Russia were allowed to win its war, “you will have a new imperial power” in Europe, that could threaten other former Soviet states like Georgia and Kazakhstan, as well as the whole continent.

“Because, definitely, it’s imperialism and colonialism that Russia is doing [in Ukraine],” he said.

Nevertheless, President Macron hinted at the possibility of engaging in “fair and constructive negotiations” with Moscow at some point in the future.
