Masdar City in Abu Dhabi unveils largest Community Park
Abu Dhabi’s Masdar City has opened Masdar Park, a new community space spanning 20 hectares. The park features green areas, sports courts, playgrounds, and tracks for running and cycling. It’s the largest project in Masdar City, known for its focus on innovation and sustainability.
Masdar Park offers facilities for various sports like volleyball, badminton, padel ball, and basketball, along with a pump track and a 5km running and cycling route. The park uses recycled materials and is powered by 340 solar panels, generating more than 300 megawatts of solar energy annually. Additionally, the pump track incorporates liquid nano-clay, reflecting the city’s commitment to water conservation.
Furthermore, Masdar Park has received an ‘Exemplar’ certification under the Estidama Public Realm Rating System in Abu Dhabi and is also home to the Estidama Mosque.
‘The Festival’
To celebrate the opening of Masdar Park, Masdar City hosted a free public event called ‘The Festival’. The event featured a “green” circus parade, interactive light displays, and creative workshops suitable for all ages. Alongside the entertainment, there were various food stalls available.
Mohamed Al Breiki, the Executive Director of Sustainable Real Estate at Masdar City, emphasized that Masdar Park is more than just a recreational area. It serves as a vital part of Masdar City’s commitment to leading the way in sustainable urban living.
Masdar City remains a popular destination for businesses, residents, and visitors alike. The Masdar City Free Zone is home to over 1,000 organizations, including international agencies and technology firms, all contributing to its status as a model for future cities aiming to address climate change effectively.
