US charges Iran with providing short-range missiles to Russia for Ukraine war
On Tuesday, the United States formally accused Iran of supplying short-range ballistic missiles to Russia for its war in Ukraine and announced plans to take measures against those involved.
During a visit to London, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, alongside British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, announced that sanctions would be revealed later Tuesday.
“Russia has now received shipments of these ballistic missiles and will likely use them within weeks in Ukraine, against Ukrainians,” Blinken said.
His comments came as he and Lammy prepare to visit Ukraine together on Wednesday.
Reports of the alleged transfers began to emerge over the weekend, with intelligence indicating they were underway, according to US officials who spoke on condition of anonymity. Blinken said Tuesday that the transfers seem to have been completed.
Iran has denied providing Russia with weapons for its war in Ukraine, as it has with previous US intelligence findings.
