Russia’s military reported on Tuesday that Ukraine used US-supplied long-range ATACMS missiles to attack a military facility in the Bryansk border region. This marks the first such attack since the US allowed Ukraine to use these weapons.

The attack occurred at 3:25 am local time, with Ukraine firing six ballistic missiles, according to Russia’s defence ministry. It stated that five missiles were intercepted by air defenses, while debris from the sixth hit a military site, causing a small fire but no casualties or damage.

Ukraine had been requesting these missiles for months to target Russian territory. On Monday, Ukraine’s foreign minister called the approval to use them a potential “game changer” in the conflict, now nearing its third year.

Moscow has warned that using Western weapons to strike Russian territory could make the US a direct participant in the conflict and promised a strong response.
