UK introduces eVisas for Pakistanis, No Passport required
The United Kingdom has introduced a major travel update: most Pakistani students and work visa applicants will now receive eVisas instead of physical visa stickers in their passports. UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) will digitally link these eVisas to applicants’ travel documents through their UKVI online accounts.
Earlier this week, the British High Commission in Islamabad announced that starting July 15, it will issue all new study and work visas to Pakistanis in digital format.
The eVisas now include students (even those enrolled in short-term courses lasting up to 11 months), skilled workers (such as healthcare professionals), global talent applicants, international sportspeople, individuals on business mobility routes, and participants in youth mobility schemes.
Existing sticker visas will remain valid until their expiration dates, and applicants using visitor or dependent routes must still obtain a physical visa endorsement.
Pakistanis can now apply online, link their eVisa directly to their passport, and skip submitting it to visa centers. This change boosts security and eliminates delays in passport returns. The update offers much-needed relief for students and professionals managing travel, exams, and job commitments.
For Pakistanis, not having to submit their passports will make it easier to prove their visa status through the UKVI online portal or share it with employers or landlords.
Jane Marriott, the UK High Commissioner, stated that this digital shift will streamline UK border checks for all travelers.
