Croatia bus crash: 12 tourist dead, 31 injured

On Saturday, a bus carrying Polish tourists drove off a road in Croatia, killing twelve people. According to authorities, all 31 surviving passengers are wounded, with several battling for their life in hospitals.

The passengers were all adults and Polish residents, according to the Polish Foreign Ministry.

They were on their way to Medjugorje, a Catholic shrine in Bosnia, when the tragedy occurred about 05:40 a.m. local time (04:50 GMT).

The bus deviated off the A4 highway near Jarek Bisaski and Podvorec, north of Zagreb.

Initially, it was claimed that 11 individuals had been slain. According to Croatian Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic, one more victim died later in the hospital.

Mr Bozinovic told reporters that”Some of the injured passengers are fighting for their lives,”

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovi extended his sympathies to the victims’ families in a tweet, saying that emergency services were doing all they could to assist.

According to local media, two Polish ministers are travelling to Croatia in the aftermath of the tragedy.
