Authorities say three people were hurt in a gunshot in a Six Flags Great America entertainment park on Sunday near Chicago. There were no fatalities or serious injuries as a result of the incident. The theme park, which is situated approximately 45 miles north of Chicago in Gurnee, Illinois; received 911 calls around 8 p.m., the Gurnee (Ill.) Police Department stated in a statement posted on its social media accounts.
The investigation is still underway, but according to the preliminary information provided by police; a white sedan entered the parking lot and parked close to the park’s entrance before several persons got out and began firing at a second target person.
According to the police statement posted on Facebook, “the gunshot… was not a random act and appeared to be a targeted crime that occurred outside the park.”
According to the statement, a 17-year-old from Aurora; Illinois with a thigh wound and a 19-year-old lady from Appleton; Wisconsin with a leg wound were both sent to the nearby hospital with non-life-threatening wounds. Third victim did not want to be sent to the hospital.

In a statement, Six Flags Great America said that Gurnee police officers and park security arrived right away. Despite the fact that the incident took place outside the park, which shuts at 8 p.m.; the remaining visitors remained inside for a limited period of time for security reasons before being removed; after the gunshot and 911 call.
According to a statement from Six Flags obtained by WGN Chicago; “Six Flags devotes our largest amount of time, skill, and resources to safety and security. For the protection of visitors and staff; layers of preventative measures are in place both inside and outside the park. In order to guarantee the highest degree of safety; we constantly analyse and improve our protocol.
“Advanced screening technology, uniformed and plainclothes patrols throughout the property; cameras installed in the parking lot and the park, and these measures enable us to react swiftly and offer critical information. The Gurnee Police Department, which runs a substation at the park; has joined the security team for the park.
A 300-acre amusement park with 17 roller coasters and three kid-focused zones is called Illinois Six Flags. About 15 miles to the north of Highland Park, a Chicago neighbourhood; where a shooter opened fire on a Fourth of July parade and killed seven people, sits Gurnee.
