After intense heat in Karachi, torrential rains flooded the city, roads turned into ponds, trees and poles fell in many places.

Due to standing water on the roads, traffic has been severely affected. The underpass of Drigh Road was flooded after which it was closed for traffic.

Drainage was nowhere to be seen. Water accumulated on Burns Road, Karsaz, Hassan Square, Shahra-e-Faisal, Tower and PIDC Chowk.

The highest rainfall of 41 mm was recorded at Saddar and 32 mm at Faisal Base.

Knee-deep water accumulated in many places, power supply was also suspended in different areas after the rains.

The Meteorological Department said that the rain system is present in the north of the Arabian Sea. Intermittent rain is expected in Karachi till last night.

A 62-year heat record broke in July, with temperatures exceeding 42 degrees Celsius in Karachi.

Meteorological Department stated that the maximum temperature recorded in Karachi today was 42.6 degrees. Earlier, on July 3, 1958, the temperature was recorded at 42.2 degrees.

July’s average temperature was 33.3 degrees Celsius in the Meteorological Department’s 30-year record, but July this year was the hottest in 62 years.

Earlier in the day, a 38-year-old record of heat was broken in Karachi when the mercury touched 42 degrees at 3 pm.

According to the Meteorological Department, on July 22, 1982, the temperature in Karachi was recorded at 40 degrees Celsius.

The torrential rains that followed the record heat changed the temperature in the city and reduced the intensity of the heat.
