Two people died and 12 people were missing in two separate coal mine incidents in China, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

The two deaths happened late Friday at a mine operated by Henan Hebi Coal and Electricity Co, forcing authorities in Henan’s central region to establish an emergency management plan, according to CCTV.

Another six people were reported missing in the north of the country on Saturday after an accident at a coal mining plant in Heilongjiang province, according to the broadcaster.

As record high coal prices urge miners to ramp up production to cover supply gaps, China has started conducting safety inspections at coal mines across the country.

In May, China urges coal producers to increase the production of coal to meet global requirements.
