Muzaffarabad: Faisal Mumtaz Rathore has taken the oath as the newly elected Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), following a successful no-confidence motion against former Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq.
The oath-taking ceremony was held at the President’s House, where the Speaker of the Azad Kashmir Assembly, Chaudhry Latif Akbar, administered the oath to Faisal Mumtaz Rathore.
The event was attended by prominent political figures, including Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Faryal Talpur, and other senior party members. Governors of Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Mehdi Shah and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi, along with senior civil and military officials, were also present.
Addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore expressed gratitude to Asif Ali Zardari, Faryal Talpur, and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for entrusting him with the leadership of AJK.
He acknowledged the challenges ahead but pledged to fulfill the expectations of the people and emphasized the PPP’s commitment to reconnecting with the public.
Rathore also paid tribute to the Pakistan Army for its sacrifices in defending the country.
The election in the Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly saw Rathore secure 36 votes in favor, with only 2 votes against him, making him the 16th Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir and the fourth prime minister of the current assembly.
