After being found guilty of sexual abuse, Spanish player Santi Mina was sentenced to four years in jail on Wednesday. Celta Vigo’s 26-year-old forward has filed an appeal against his sentence. Mina was also absolved of a charge of sexual aggression, which is linked to intimidation or violence against the victim.
Celta Vigo, who play in La Liga, said the player has been temporarily removed from the squad until the outcome of the appeal procedure. They also initiated disciplinary processes to examine the club’s alternatives.
Mina was sentenced to eight years in jail by the state prosecutor, while the victim’s counsel asked for nine and a half years.
