Google Photos is rolling out a new AI powered feature called “Moods”, it lets users give their existing photos a retro, film like look with one tap.
The feature is coming to Android and iOS users around the world. It looks at the lighting and colours in each photo before making changes. Instead of using the same filter on every photo, Moods creates an edit based on the image.
Google says Android users will get the feature before iOS users. However, the company has not announced an exact release date. Moods is available in the Create tab of Google Photos, along with other AI powered tools.
The feature currently offers eight different moods. Airy Minimalist and Crisp 35mm focus on clean and classic colours. These options give photos a simple and traditional look.
Two other options, 2000’s Cinema and Rich Textures, give photos a more cinematic style. They use colour grading and texture to create a film inspired appearance.
For users who like the early 2000s camera style, Pink Digicam and Retro Contrast offer a colourful point and shoot camera look, the other two presets are designed for night photos.
Moods works differently from a standard filter. It checks the lighting and colours already present in a photo before making changes. Users can also adjust the intensity of each mood, this lets them decide how strong they want the effect to be.

Artem Russakovskii of APKMirror was among the first users to get access to the feature. He shared screenshots of the available presets and intensity controls on X.
Shimrit Ben Yair, vice president of Google Photos, later confirmed that Moods will be available worldwide on Android and iOS, she said Android users will get the feature first, followed by iOS users.
