New York Knicks end 53-year title drought with NBA win

Knicks completed a memorable journey and brought the NBA title back

New York Knicks have won the NBA Championship for the first time in 53 years.

The team secured the title on June 13, 2026, after defeating the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in game5 of the NBA finals.

The Knicks won the best of seven series and ended one of the longest championship waits in basketball history.

This victory marks the franchise’s first NBA title since 1973. That year, the Knicks lifted the famous “Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy” and became champions. Since then, fans had waited more than five decades to celebrate another title. The latest win has finally ended that long wait.

Following the victory, thousands of Knicks supporters celebrated across New York City. Large crowds gathered around Madison Square Garden to cheer for their team.

Fans waved flags, sang team chants, and enjoyed the historic moment. Many described the championship as one of the biggest achievements in the club’s history.

Jalen Brunson played a major role in the Knicks success. The star guard delivered an outstanding performance in the deciding game. He scored 45 points and helped his team overcome the Spurs. His efforts proved too much for the Spurs, who were led by Victor Wembanyama throughout the series.

Because of his excellent performances, Brunson was named the NBA finals most valuable player (MVP). During the Finals, he averaged 32.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game. His leadership and scoring ability were key factors behind the Knicks championship run.

Free throws also played an important part in the victory. The Knicks earned more chances from the foul line than their opponents. Brunson alone received several free throw opportunities, which helped his team maintain a narrow lead during crucial moments of the game.

After the final whistle, Brunson spoke about the emotional win. He said he was overwhelmed and struggled to describe his feelings. He added that the team never gave up, even when many people doubted them. According to Brunson, the players always found a way to respond to challenges and keep fighting.

The last time the Knicks reached the NBA Finals was in 1999, interestingly, they also faced the Spurs in that series but were unable to win the championship.

This time, however, the outcome was different. The Knicks completed a memorable journey and brought the NBA title back to New York after 53 years.
