ISLAMABAD: Pakistan strongly condemned continued threats from the Houthis against Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping in the Red Sea, the Foreign Office said Wednesday, warning that such actions put regional security and global trade at risk amid escalating tensions in the region.
In its statement, the Foreign Office said the threats undermine freedom of navigation, challenge the international rules based maritime order, and jeopardize the uninterrupted flow of global commerce.
Pakistan described threats against commercial shipping and trade with Saudi Arabia as unacceptable and a violation of established international law, expressing concern over reports targeting vessels engaged in lawful trade with the kingdom.
The statement follows the Houthis’ declaration of a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia, along with threats to target commercial vessels. Last week, Saudi Arabia intercepted ballistic missiles launched from Yemen toward its southern region.

Pakistan reaffirmed that any hostile action against Pakistani flagged vessels or its broader maritime interests would be treated as a serious threat to its national security and sovereignty.
The Foreign Office said that in line with the United Nations Charter and international law, Pakistan reserves the right to take all necessary measures, including the lawful use of force in self defense, to protect its maritime assets and national interests.
The statement also expressed deep concern over what it described as attempts to draw Saudi Arabia further into the broader Middle East conflict, reaffirming Pakistan’s continued support for the kingdom’s security, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and prosperity.
