Rawalpindi: Rising Pakistani opener Saim Ayub achieved a remarkable milestone in T20 International cricket, joining an elite group of Pakistani batters to surpass 1,000 runs in the format.
The 23-year-old accomplished the feat during the tri-nation T20 series against Sri Lanka, crossing the 1,000-run mark after adding 11 runs in his 51st innings. Prior to this, he had accumulated 989 runs in 50 innings.
This achievement places Ayub among an exclusive list of Pakistani T20 batters, alongside Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, and Shahid Afridi, who have also reached this landmark.
In the same match at Rawalpindi, Pakistan successfully chased Sri Lanka’s total of 129 runs in 15.3 overs, losing three wickets in the process.
Sahibzada Farhan starred with a scintillating 80 runs off 45 balls, including five sixes and six boundaries, while Ayub contributed 20 runs. Babar Azam added 16 runs, and Salman Ali Agha was dismissed without scoring.
Sri Lanka’s bowlers offered some resistance, with Dushmantha Chameera claiming two wickets and Dasun Shanaka taking one. However, Ayub’s composed innings anchored Pakistan’s batting, underlining his growing reputation as a dependable T20 performer.
