PCB issues new contracts to five PSL Franchises, Multan Sultans left out

Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that Multan Sultans were not offered a new contract for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season, citing the franchise’s failure to meet the board’s compliance standards.

Sources confirmed that the Multan Sultans did not adhere to the PCB’s required compliance policies. Meanwhile, the board has offered new contracts to the other five PSL franchises Karachi Kings, Peshawar Zalmi, Islamabad United, Quetta Gladiators, and Lahore Qalandars.

These franchises were presented with a 25% increase in the value of their contracts, and given a 10-day window to finalize and sign the agreements.

Further complicating matters, Multan Sultans did not receive the PSL valuation report, which heightened tensions between the franchise and the PCB.

Notably, Multan Sultans’ owner, Ali Tareen, has publicly expressed his displeasure with the PCB management, even going as far as tearing up a legal notice issued by the board. The franchise had also sent a letter to the PCB Chairman with various proposals.

In a parallel move, the PCB has initiated a tender process for the sale of the 7th and 8th PSL teams. Potential buyers are invited to submit their proposals by December 15, after which the two new teams will be auctioned off.

Cities being considered for the new PSL teams include Hyderabad, Sialkot, Muzaffarabad, Faisalabad, Gilgit, and Rawalpindi, with buyers able to choose any of these locations.
