Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the confirmation of Additional Judges in the Sindh, Lahore, and Peshawar High Courts and sanctioned extensions for several others, following recommendations from the Judicial Commission of Pakistan.
The move, carried out on the advice of the Prime Minister, aims to strengthen the judiciary and ensure the timely disposal of pending cases.
Sindh High Court:
The President confirmed 10 Additional Judges of the Sindh High Court as permanent judges, including: Justice Miran Muhammad Shah, Justice Tasneem Sultana, Justice Riazat Ali Sahar, Justice Muhammad Hasan, Justice Abdul Hameed Bhagi, Justice Jan Ali Junejo, Justice Nisar Ahmed Bhanbhro, Justice Ali Haider, Justice Muhammad Usman Ali Hadi, and Justice Muhammad Jaffar Raza.
Additionally, the tenure of two Additional Judges Justice Khalid Hussain Shahani and Justice Syed Faiz-ul-Hasan Shah was extended by six months.
Lahore High Court:
The confirmation of 11 Additional Judges as permanent judges was approved, including: Justice Hasan Nawaz Makhdoom, Justice Malik Waqar Haider Awan, Justice Sardar Akbar Ali, Justice Syed Ahsan Raza Kazmi, Justice Malik Javed Iqbal Wains, Justice Muhammad Jawad Zafar, Justice Khalid Ishaq, Justice Malik Muhammad Owais Khalid, Justice Chaudhry Sultan Mehmood, Justice Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh, and Justice Abher Gul Khan.
Justice Tariq Mahmood Bajwa of the Lahore High Court received a six-month extension in tenure.
Peshawar High Court:
Six Additional Judges were confirmed as permanent judges: Justice Muhammad Tariq Afridi, Justice Abdul Fayyaz, Justice Salahuddin, Justice Sadiq Ali, Justice Syed Mudasir Amir, and Justice Qazi Jawad Ihsanullah.
Four Additional Judges Justice Farah Jamshed, Justice Inamullah Khan, Justice Sabetullah Khan, and Justice Aurangzeb received six-month extensions.
This step by the President is expected to enhance judicial efficiency and facilitate the prompt resolution of cases across Pakistan’s higher judiciary.
