Karachi: Weather in Karachi took a welcome turn early this morning, as a brief shower brought much-needed relief from the recent spell of heat and humidity, leaving the city feeling refreshingly cool.
The light to moderate rain was recorded in several parts of the city, including Shahrah-e-Faisal, Airport, Model Colony, and Landhi.
Other areas such as I.I. Chundrigar Road, Defence, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and Nazimabad and many areas experienced significant rainfall, making the morning commute refreshing for many. The sudden change in weather helped reduce the intensity of the recent heat and humidity across the city.
Weather expert Jawad Memon had earlier forecasted the possibility of moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder in Karachi. He warned that heavy showers could occur on Tuesday and Wednesday as part of a prevailing weather system expected to last until August 23.
According to the weather forecaster Jawad Memon, Karachi may witness two to three rain spells during this system, with rainfall ranging between 40 to 50 mm in most areas.
However, some locations could experience heavier rainfall, reaching 70 to 80 mm — and possibly even up to 100 mm.
The Meteorological Department has advised residents, especially those living in low-lying areas, to take necessary precautions against potential urban flooding due to the changing weather conditions.
Power Outages Face in Several Localities:
Alongside the rainfall, power outages have been reported across several parts of Karachi, including North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, Landhi, Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, Baldia, SITE, Metroville, Jahangir Road, PIB Colony, Lyari, Kharadar, Surjani Town, and Buffer Zone, affecting daily routines.
Road Precautions:
In response, traffic authorities have issued precautionary measures for commuters during this rainy period. DIG Traffic emphasized reducing vehicle speed, maintaining safe distances, avoiding sudden braking, and advised motorcyclists to use the left side of the road.
Drivers are also urged to keep their headlights on and stay clear of electric poles. Traffic police, led by Peer Muhammad Shah, are actively managing road safety and can be contacted via the helpline at 1915 for assistance.
