Apple claims that the new device would clean any Apple display “safely and efficiently” and the public reactions to this polishing cloth are pure gold.
Apple introduced a new product, the Polishing Cloth, at its Monday presentation. The “soft, non-abrasive substance” cloth is available for ₹1,900 on Apple’s shop.
While the Polishing Cloth bears Apple’s trademark emblem in one corner, it’s not immediately obvious what distinguishes it from comparable microfiber towels on the market that cost a fraction of the price.
Premium microfiber towels on Amazon, for example, cost approximately $1.50 apiece.
According to Bloomberg, this puts Apple’s polishing attachment (which costs $19 in the US) in contention for the company’s highest-margin physical product.
Apple claims that its newest device will clean any Apple display “safely and efficiently.”
According to Apple’s webshop, it’s compatible with virtually all of their devices, including iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks.
However, while the Polishing Cloth is already in short supply, taking three to four weeks to arrive in certain areas of the world, social media comments were less than enthusiastic.
Many people criticized Apple for overpricing the item.
A Twitter user stated, “Apple has the audacity to sell a piece of cloth for $19.”
Some say it like that, “peak capitalism.”
Others found Apple’s addition of a compatibility list for the fabric amusing.
On Twitter, there were a plethora of memes.
Apple has a history of pushing product price boundaries, with each new release sparking a barrage of now-predictable pricing jokes.
According to Bloomberg, the iPhone was the first smartphone to break the $1,000 barrier.
Unlike the Polishing Cloth, though, Apple’s computers and smartphones are frequently praised for their features and capabilities.
