Zimbabwe T20I captain Sikandar Raza is enduring an unimaginable personal loss following the heartbreaking passing of his younger brother, Muhammad Mahdi, a tragedy confirmed by the Zimbabwe Cricket Board.

In a deeply emotional statement shared on social media, Zimbabwe Cricket expressed its sorrow and extended condolences to Raza and his grieving family.

“Zimbabwe Cricket extends its heartfelt condolences to our T20I captain Sikandar Raza and his family on the untimely loss of his beloved younger brother, Muhammad Mahdi,” the statement read. “Mahdi passed away in Harare at the tender age of 13.”

The board revealed that Muhammad Mahdi was born with haemophilia and lost his life due to recent health complications, cutting short a young life filled with innocence and hope.

He was laid to rest the following day at Warren Hills Cemetery in Harare, as family and loved ones gathered in grief.

Zimbabwe Cricket said its board, management, players, and staff stand shoulder to shoulder with Sikandar Raza and his family during this devastating time, offering prayers, strength, and unwavering support as they mourn an irreplaceable loss.

The news sent waves of sorrow across the cricketing community, with fans and fellow players flooding social media with messages of love, prayers, and solidarity for Raza, who has long been admired not just for his performances on the field but also for his character off it.

Despite being one of Zimbabwe’s most dependable cricketers having represented the nation in 127 T20 Internationals, 22 Tests, and 153 One-Day Internationals this moment stands as a painful reminder that even sporting heroes are not shielded from life’s deepest heartbreaks.
