Islamabad: Following the passage of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), the Judicial Commission (JC), and the Practice and Procedure Committee have all been formally reconstituted.
According to an official statement issued by the Supreme Court, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail has been appointed to the Supreme Judicial Council after consultation between the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the Chief Justice of the Federal Shariat Court.
Chief Justice Yahya Afridi will now serve as the chairperson of the SJC, with Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan as its second senior member. The Council will also include Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Hassan Rizvi, and Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail.
The Judicial Commission of Pakistan has also been reorganized. Justice Aamer Farooq has been inducted as a member, while Chief Justice Yahya Afridi will act as the Commission’s head. Other judicial members include Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan, Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Hassan Rizvi, and Justice Aamer Farooq.
Additionally, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and Attorney General Mansoor Awan will serve as Commission members. Parliamentary representation will include two lawmakers each from the government and the opposition. A Pakistan Bar Council–nominated lawyer and a woman member nominated by the Speaker of the National Assembly will also sit on the Commission.
Justice Mandokhail has further been named a member of the Practice and Procedure Committee, completing the post-amendment restructuring of the country’s top judicial bodies.
