Snow, rain expected across North & West, Karachi nights turn cold

Karachi: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has reported that nights in Karachi are becoming colder. The minimum temperature was recorded at 13.5°C, while the maximum is expected to reach 30°C.

Humidity levels are at 52 percent, with easterly winds blowing at 3 km/h. Skies are expected to remain clear, and no rainfall is forecast in the city until next week.

Meanwhile, a western wind system that entered Balochistan on December 19 is expected to bring rain and snowfall across northern and western Pakistan from December 20 to 22.

Balochistan: Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Noski, Harnai, Zhob, Musakhel, and Turbat may experience rain and snowfall in hilly areas. Coastal districts including Kech, Gwadar, Jiwani, and Lasbela are likely to see light rain.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Abbottabad, Haripur, and Mansehra can expect rain and snowfall in hills. Intermittent rain is forecast for Bunir, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, and Waziristan, while Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Bannu, Karak, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, and Kohat may experience rain with strong winds and thunderstorms.

Gilgit-Baltistan: Diamer, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar are likely to receive intermittent rain and moderate to heavy snowfall from the night of December 20 to the morning of December 23.

Azad Kashmir: Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, and Hattian can expect rain and snowfall in hilly areas. Bagh, Haveli, Sudhnoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur may experience rain with strong winds and thunderstorms.

Punjab & Islamabad: Rain is expected from the evening of December 20 in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, the Pothohar region, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Noor Pur Thal, and Layyah. Murree and Galiyat may see rain and snowfall with strong winds and thunderstorms on December 20–21. Cloudy conditions are forecast for Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad, Hafizabad, and Gujranwala, while light rain/drizzle is possible in Lahore, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Jhang, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Toba Tek Singh.

Warnings: Heavy snowfall may block roads in Naran, Kaghan, Swat, Dir, and Kohistan from December 20 to 22. Traffic disruptions are possible in Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Murree, Galiyat, Neelum Valley, Bagh, and Poonch.
