WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump posted an AI-generated video depicting former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama in an offensive manner, which he later deleted following widespread criticism on social media.
The video, in which the Obamas were shown in a demeaning manner, prompted the White House to claim that a staff member had posted it by mistake and it was subsequently removed.
Former Vice Presidential candidate Kamala Harris criticized the White House’s attempts to downplay the matter, stating that public confidence in such explanations is low since the video had initially been defended. She remarked, “We all know who Trump is and what his ideology represents.”
Democratic leader Bernie Sanders condemned the video, questioning whether Republican colleagues would continue to kowtow to a leader promoting racist content.
Trump defended his actions, saying he had not fully viewed the post and removed it as soon as he realized, adding, “It wasn’t a mistake; I oversee thousands of things.”
The incident has sparked renewed debate about Trump’s use of social media and the boundaries of AI-generated content targeting public figures.
