Sindh Government has declared 20 districts of the province as calamity affected.

Sindh government spokesman Murtaza Wahab while sharing the notification on social networking website Twitter wrote that under the Sindh Disasters Act 1958, 20 districts of the province were declared disaster affected.

According to the notification, the Sindh government has declared the districts as ‘calamity affected’ under the powers conferred under section 3 of the Sindh National Climate (Prevention and Relief) Act, 1958.

The Sindh government has declared 20 districts in four divisions of the province as disaster-hit, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas and Shaheed Benazirabad.

The Karachi Division includes all the 6 districts of Karachi South, West, East, Central, Korangi and Malir.

Besides, Hyderabad division includes Hyderabad, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Jamshoro, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Matiari and Dadu.

In addition, Mirpur Khas division includes Mirpur Khas, Umerkot and Tharparkar districts while Shaheed Benazirabad division includes Shaheed Benazirabad and Sanghar districts.

The notification said that the Deputy Commissioners of all the above districts had immediately assessed the losses after which it would be rectified.

It may be recalled that Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had said that eight districts of the province, including Karachi, would be declared calamity affected.

It may be recalled that the recent monsoon rains in different districts of the province including Karachi had created flood situation and several feet of water had stagnated in roads, areas, business centres, underpasses, houses of people including housing societies.

The situation was caused by the rains, which caused huge financial losses to the people and many people lost their loved ones.

On August 28, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah had said that 80 people were killed in monsoon rains across the province.

Murad Ali Shah had said that 47 people have lost their lives since the first spell of rains in Karachi since July 6, 17 deaths in Karachi on August 27 during the rains while 80 people across Sindh died during the monsoon spell. I offer my condolences to the families of those killed and injured in the rains and extend my heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their lives.

Murad Ali Shah had said that the Sindh government has ordered a survey of the damage caused by rains across the province.

He said that he would survey all the losses and make a report and put it before the federal government, form a committee to help the people and would also seek help from the federal government.
