Karachi Sessions Court sentenced a man hang till death for raping 12-year-old girl. The culprit, Wali Muhammad, raped a girl in the Manghopir area in 2018.

The Additional District and Sessions Judge reserved his decision after recording evidence and conclusive arguments from both parties.

The judge noted that the prosecution had successfully substantiated the charges against the detainee.

He remarked that the culprit’s move created a sense of terror and insecurity in the society.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on the convict Wali Mohammad if found guilty.

It should be noted that the death sentence is subject to the confirmation of the Sindh High Court.

According to the prosecution, Wali Mohammad had raped the victim girl who was a friend of his own daughter.

He added that the victim had come to the accused’s house to study where he raped her.

The victim’s father told reporters that two years have passed since the incident but his daughter is still in a state of fear.

It may be recalled that in December, the Model Court of Karachi had sentenced the accused to death after abducting and killing a 6-year-old girl in 2006.

In August last year, the local NGO Sahil revealed in its report that 1,489 children were sexually abused in the first quarter of this year and about eight children are targeted daily.

The report said that among these children were 785 girls and 704 boys.

The report, titled Crowl Numbers, said that in 822 cases, the accused knew the victims or their parents, while in 135 cases, strangers were involved.

The report said that in 98 cases, the victims ranged in age from one to five years, in 331 cases between six years and 10 years and in most 490 cases, the victims ranged in age from 11 to 15 years.
