At least three people have been killed in the protests of anti-Taliban in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad, according to witnesses, as the militant group consolidates authority across the nation.

The Taliban fighters opened fire on citizens who were trying to raise the national flag of Afghanistan at a city plaza, according to two witnesses and a retired police official.

Three people were killed, while on the other hand most people were injured.

The Taliban have stated that they will respect human rights, unlike during their previous draconian rule from 1996 to 2001, the attack in Jalalabad occurred as many Afghans sought refuge at home or attempted to flee the country, and as allegations of abuses by the loosely controlled militant organization grew.

Numerous people have expressed that the two-decade Western experiment to change Afghanistan will not be survived by the resurgent Taliban, who seized control of the nation in a couple of days.

On Wednesday, leaders of the Taliban met with senior Afghan officials to discuss a future government.

“I was forced to leave Afghanistan”, says exiled Afghan President

On Wednesday, exiled Afghan President Ashraf Ghani justified his decision to flee Kabul as the Taliban took control and eventually destroyed his government.

He claimed that he was “forced to leave Afghanistan with one set of traditional clothes, a vest and the sandals I was wearing.” Ghani left Afghanistan on Sunday just as the Taliban approached Kabul.

He strongly rejected rumors that he had left with millions of dollars.

Whereas Ghani’s last statement had stated that he left Afghanistan “to avoid bloodshed”.

The questions on the presence of Ashraf Ghani have not been responded by the US embassy in Abu Dhabi.
