FM Qureshi reaches Iran on last leg of four-nation tour

TEHRAN: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Thursday reached Iranian capital on the last leg of his four-nation tour to hold discussion with leadership on the evolving situation of Afghanistan.

Pakistan’s ambassador to Iran Rahim Hayat Qureshi and senior foreign ministry officials welcomed Foreign Minister Qureshi at the Mehrabad Airport.

During his visit, the foreign minister is expected to hold meetings with newly elected Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi and Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdul Hayan.

The meetings will focus on bilateral relations, enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest and the law and order situation in the region, including Afghanistan.

Qureshi earlier, visited Turkmenistan on the third leg of his four-nation tour where he called on President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimukhammedov.

During the meeting, the foreign minister highlighted strong fraternal ties between the two countries, underpinned by shared objectives and commonality of views.

He also reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to enhance economic linkages through various projects including TAPI.

During the meeting, situation in Afghanistan also came under discussion.

Foreign Minister Qureshi, emphasising the importance of a peaceful and stable Afghanistan for the region, underlined the need for close coordination.

He added that region will witness transformation in terms of enhanced stability, trade and improved connectivity from a peaceful and stable Afghanistan.
