Disney’s Jungle Cruise has hit the theatres and is also available to stream on Disney Plus this weekend. According to early revenue figures, streaming accounted for a third of the film’s overall revenue.

The Jungle Cruise figurines are the second time Disney has issued figures for a film that is part of the Premier Access program, which allows Disney Plus users to spend $30 to stream certain films the day they are released in theatres.

Jungle Cruise earned $30 million this weekend, which is half of what Black Widow earned, $60 million, on Disney plus following its early July debut. But revenue of Jungle Cruise from Disney Plus represented a bigger margin of the total revenue compared to Black Widow: Jungle Cruise’s $30 million was about 33% of its $91.8 million, while Black Widow’s $60 million was about 27% of its $218.8 million.

The Figures Came Just after Scarlet Johnson Files Lawsuit over Black Widow Release

The latest figures come just days after Scarlett Johansson filed a significant lawsuit against Disney, alleging that the studio broke a contract to release Black Widow exclusively in theatres.

The complaint is the latest blow against the direct-to-streaming approach; in December, Dune filmmaker Denis Villeneuve chastised WarnerMedia for announcing that all of its 2021 films would be released simultaneously on HBO Max, and cinemas weren’t happy either.

While WarnerMedia has already announced its plans to release 10 films in theatres as well as on streaming services in 2022. On the other hand, Disney Plus has not yet revealed any new titles that could follow after Jungle Cruise.
